RECIPE: PITA HEARTS


It was a fine day...no electricity...nowhere else to go...the whole city was blacked out due to unfortunate weather conditions. Although, that didn't stop me from creating something that I've been craving for....PITA CHIPS!

INGREDIENTS

- 2 cups of whole wheat flour (I got mine from Healthy Options but you can find an affordable one at a Trinoma market for PHP 92.55) - 1 teaspoon sea salt - 1 tablespoon olive oil - 1 cup warm water Optional: - 2 tablespoons flax seeds - 1 teaspoon basil or any of your favorite herb. You can find all these ingredients in your local super markets.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Mix all the ingredients together into a dough. 2. Add more flour until it's not sticky and manageable to shape it into a ball (as in the picture). 3. Use a rolling pin to flatten it until it's flat enough like a chip (3mm). 4. Cut out into any shape you want. For me, I used a heart shaped cookie cutter to represent it's purpose - super healthy for the heart and they're made with love ;-) 5. Place these babies on a non-stick cookie pan then toss them in a pre-heated oven of 350 degrees for 10 minutes until they're slightly light to golden brown. 6. Place them in a cookie rack to cool. 7. Eat them as much as you want throughout your day whenever you get hungry or in the mood to munch on something. Oh! And you can include this with your favorite cheese or salsa dip! :-D

Here's my version of a guilt-free snack that will definitely energize you throughout your day. It's really simple, easy, and fun to do! A cheap, clean, and delicious snack that you can store in a ziplock bag (or however you'd like to store your food). It's a helpful accomplishment to a healthy lifestyle without breaking my wallet! Whether I'm just chillin' at home or watching a movie with friends and family, or when I don't have enough time or cash to eat outside, I'd much on these hearts!
